The Customer Consultant is responsible for ensuring value and use of research solutions/products for all major research-intensive institutions in Russia and selected territories outside the region. Primary objective of the Customer Consultant is to understand and capture researcher needs and deliver a valuable solution to address these needs leading to a successful business renewal and maximized customer retention (number of customers)


To be successful, the Customer Consultant will know everything about the researcher workflow in their portfolio. You will work closely together with the Account Managers to ensure valuable communication with the customer leading to mutually beneficial outcomes, including renewal, upsell and cross-sell opportunities. Important success factors are continuous learning, team work and the sharing of knowledge and experiences between the different team members and sub regions. And you will also work closely with the Global Customer Service teams to successfully onboard new customers.

You will report to the Regional Director Eastern Europe and Russian Federation and the role should be based in Moscow.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop project and engagement plans with the client aiming at uncovering and delivering against client’s needs at all levels, from individual researchers, librarians and research management officers to University management
  • Prepare, plan and execute on-site trainings and specialized workshops on relevant key products and solutions to deliver customer expected outcomes with respect
  • Monitor economic buyer and other key stakeholders value perception at key strategic accounts, proactively address customer issues within Elsevier and advocate for customer when required.
  • Develop and maintain value stories for relevant portfolio products across the market and down to individual customers
  • Systematically monitor and analyse usage at customer and regional levels against targets, develop mitigating actions where usage is not meeting objectives
  • Coordinate to ensure delivery of monthly usage reporting by central Usage team to key customers (including trend analyses)
  • Along with Account Manager and other internal Elsevier team members develop and manage relationships with key customer stakeholders including senior managers and economic buyers
  • Actively supervise complex engagements as assigned by Global Director of Sales or Regional Director
  • Focused on total renewal growth for the territories and products assigned
  • Proactively uncover new business opportunities from primary academic to adjacent market segments-corporate, government, economic development orgs. etc.
  • Understanding national and international landscape of research universities and global competition drivers
  • Monitor, capture and respond to competitor activities in the territory assigned

What you should bring:

  • University degree, preferably in data-driven subject
  • Relevant working experience in related academic and business environment (electronic resources, analytical tools, enterprise software, etc)
  • Deep understanding of information and analytics market, key global players and trends
  • Business acumen and comfort in dealing with complex commercial deals
  • Expertise to manage complex matrix of internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands-on experience in user engagement and driving user adoption
  • Experienced in working in an international matrixes organisation highly preferred
  • Strong communication (verbal including on-line delivery and written) and presentation skills in English and Russian
  • Have an excellent knowledge of research environment in Russia
  • A passion for customer engagement, drive, enthusiasm and energy
  • Readiness for frequent travel, domestic and abroad (up to 70% depending on the season)
