The Position

The position is part of the global risk group and deals with the operational risk management of of VTB Capital Investments business line (WIM) which include VTB Capital Asset management, VTB Capital Broker and VTB Forex as key entities. And as such the one will be aimed at further development of operational risk framework across WIM companies and businesses, including holding Risk and Control Self-assessments, analysis of operational risk events, elaboration of Key Risk Indicators, active interaction with the Business and Support functions on the operational risk topics. For candidates applied for Operational Risk manager it also implies certain wider managerial responsibilities to support the Head of IM Risk, including risk analysis and approval new products and deals, participation in committees and working groups on the risk management subject.

Principal Responsibilities

• Further develop operational risk procedures on Risk events, Risk and Control Assessment, Key Risk Indicators and other operational risk topics
• Provide necessary support to Business / Support areas to ensure these procedures are implemented
• Actively participate in delivering Operational Risk training to staff
• Build relationship and maintain continuous communication with Operational Risk Champions of the departments
• Actively participate in establishment of Key Risk Indicators in Business / Function areas, participate in establishing thresholds
• Provide support to Business / Function Heads in Risk Event logging, ensuring there is clear understanding of what constitutes an event and what course of action should be followed
• Maintain quality data in Op Risk system, ensure events are logged, and actions arising from events are followed upon
• Contribute to the Risk and Control Self-Assessment process into the Business / Functions
• Collect KRI data from Business / Function heads on a monthly basis and analyse prior to submission
• Effect risk analysis of agreements, new products, non-standard deals, provide risk opinion and approve as per authorities granted
• Contribute to the further implementation of risk aspects of Charles River IT platform
• Providing data for and ensuring the accuracy of relevant disclosures relating to risk management for VTBC IM and/or its individual funds
• Identifying and escalating, through the VTBC IM’s risk governance framework, instances where operational risks fall outside of stated risk appetite.
• New products risk analysis to ensure adequacy to risk tolerance level of respective product and possible negative impact on VTBC IM capital.
• Maintaining up to date knowledge of the regulatory requirements relating to risk to which VTBC IM and its individual funds are subject and ensuring that the risk management processes of the respective entities are compliant with those requirements.
• Maintaining a working relationship with the Risk Management Group of VTB Capital to ensure that VTB IM’s risk management framework and ongoing reporting are consistent with the general risk management standards of VTB Capital.
• Support to VTBC IM employees regarding risk culture implementation (through operational risk studies and presentations, consultations, etc.).
• Addressing new regulatory requirement to professional market participants.

Key Competencies & Qualifications

• Higher education is a must; advanced in economics, finance or natural sciences is preferred
• Over 5 years working experience in an operational risk position in Risk Management within investment management, investment banking or banking is a must. Candidates with experience in senior positions in Compliance, Internal Audit, Back-office are applicable as well.
• Deep knowledge of operational business processes in investment management company is preferred
• Practical knowledge of operational risk techniques and practices is preferred
• Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Solid knowledge of Russian financial markets and products is a must; knowledge of international markets is a plus
• Excellent communication skills, including fluency in English and leadership skills
• Advanced level in English is a must
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure
